Eternal Marriage

This last week I was able to read a talk by Elder Bruce C. Hafen of the Seventy of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It was titled Covenant Marriage, here is the link.

What really stood out to me was the difference he gave between a covenant marriage and a contractual one.

What really stood out to me was the difference he gave between a covenant marriage and a contractual one.
"When troubles come, the parties to
a contractual marriage seek happiness by walking away. They marry to
obtain benefits and will stay only as long as they’re receiving what
they bargained for. But when troubles come to a covenant marriage, the
husband and wife work them through. They marry to give and to grow, bound by
covenants to each other, to the community, and to God. Contract
companions each give 50
percent; covenant companions each give 100 percent."
This is not a game of give and take. This is all give, we have to each do our part to make sure our marriages last. I can give 100% of myself to my marriage, because that is how important it is to me.
